Irina Milorava: We should Frequently Reiterate What We lose by Rejecting HPPs
As noted by Irina Milorava, head of the Energy Exchange, only wind and solar power development cannot balance the current energy deficit in the country.
Georgia’s electricity consumption grows year to year and the country should use hydro energy power, she told the Business partner’s Four.
„I believe today there is no alternative to dialogue and we should frequently reiterate what we are losing by rejecting hydro power plants or how we can replace them. We should not deceive our population that only wind and solar power stations can replace HPPs. What is our real potential in this regard? Under the 2020-2030 updated plan, solar power will be 520 megawatts and wind power will total 1,330 megawatts. These resources cannot eradicate the current deficit. For example, our dependence on imports in 2019 was 12% and maybe somebody does not find anything tragic in this figure. However, the month on month comparison shows that in February imports dependence exceeded 25% and this is a catastrophic indicator”, Irina Milorava noted.
