Government to Purchase New Subway Cars for 60 Million Euros

The government plans to purchase new, modern-style subway cars.

The estimated cost of the purchase is about 60 million euros.

It should be noted that 192 subway cars are registered on the balance of the Tbilisi Transport Company at this stage. These wagons are operated by two power plants - Nadzaladevi and Gldani.

However, there is virtually no room for additional new wagons in these two electric depots. Therefore, with the purchase of new wagons, it will be necessary to restore the old, depreciated depot. In addition to the restoration of the old depot, it will be necessary to restore the tunnel connecting the Saburtalo line (Tsereteli station), which will significantly improve the uninterrupted supply of the metro to the Saburtalo line along with the Nadzaladevi depot.

The cost of construction of the new depot is about 10 million euros, and the restoration of the tunnel - 5 million euros. For this project, the government will receive a loan of 65 million euros from the EBRD for a period of 15 years.
