Government Decided to Subsidize Apple Sales
The government made a decision to subsidize apple sales in the country. As the representatives explain, it is essential to incentivize and support our crop growers so that no kilogram of sub-standard apples falls beyond sales.
Orchard growers will receive the due revenues. It was stated by Irakli Garibashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia at the Executive Government Meeting.
“We made a decision to subsidize the apple sales in the country. Otar Shamugia [Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia] developed a proposal. This year we expect 120 000 tons of apples. Subsidies were made by us in previous years and it is planned for this year as well.
You may well be aware that special attention is paid to apple growing in Gori and Kareli Municipalities. It is thus essential to incentivize and support our farmers so that no kilogram of sub-standard apples – let me stress, sub-standard apples – fall beyond sales. Farmers will get their due revenues.
Almost 20 enterprises will be engaged in the program. Otar Shamugia [Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia] will establish a due Task Force and all will be done at the highest level” noted the Head of Government of Georgia.
