Electricity Import from Russia Grows by 94.2%
In February 2021, electricity imports from Russian Federation increased by 32.6%. According to the Electricity System Commercial Operator (ESCO), in February 2021, Georgia bought 413.972 million kw/h of electricity in foreign countries, while the figure marked 312.037 million kw/h in February 2020.
The ratio of Russian imports in February amounted to 62.2%. Namely, in February 2021 Georgia bought 257.624 kw/h in Russian Federation, up 94.2% compared to February 2020 (132.617 million kw/h in February 2020).
Electricity imports from Azerbaijan declined by 17%. Namely, in February 2020, Georgia bought 179.420 million kw/h in Azerbaijan and 148.834 million kw/h in February 2021. The country also bought 7.514 million kw/h in Turkey. According to ESCO, in February 2021, Georgia’s electricity generation amounted to 619.973 million kw/h, while the domestic consumption marked 1,068.514 million kw/h.
