EBRD Allocates 75 Million Euros for Rehabilitation of Metro Tbilisi

EBRD has already decided to finance the Tbilisi Metro Rehabilitation Project in early 2020. The volume of the project is 75 million euros, or 267 million GEL at the current exchange rate. Its implementation is planned from 2022, for which the state budget provides funding of 117.5 million GEL.

According to the appendix of the investment projects of the budget, the rehabilitation of the metro envisages the repair of wagons, the rehabilitation of the depot and the Saburtalo line.

"Tbilisi Metro project is funded by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the total cost of which is 75 million euros and envisages the rehabilitation of the subway cars, the existing depot and the tunnel connecting the Saburtalo line.

The project is a capital project with a high cost, but at the same time it should be considered that the project envisages the rehabilitation of the existing system infrastructure to ensure the upgrade and security of outdated systems," - the document reads.
