Driving Time from Tbilisi to Oni to Decrease by 1.5 Hours
The driving time from Tbilisi to Oni will decrease by 1.5 hours to 4.5 hours, instead of 6 hours.
The driving time will decrease after construction and reconstruction works of Zemo Imereti-Racha 5-km highway will be finished.
As noted by the Road Department, at this stage, the road construction works are in an active phase. The road starts from Sachkhere and passes the village do Sareki, Kvemo Khevi, Uzunta, Shkneri, Bokva, Kvashkhieti, Zudali. The road will be connected to the Ambrolauri-Oni road that is a 20 km way from Ambrolauri and 5 km way from Oni. The project consists of 7 phases.
The greater part of the road infrastructure crosses the woodland in the river Kheura Gorge, a 1000-1500 meter above the sea.
At this stage, the construction works proceed simultaneously in 5 lots. The construction works will end by 2021.
The total value of the project is 105 million GEL.
