Construction of Rustaveli-Mtatsminda Ropeway Returning to an Active Phase

The construction of a cable car connecting Rustaveli Avenue to Mtatsminda in Tbilisi is returning to an active phase.

According to the Tbilisi Mayor, a tender will be announced, which will reveal the contractor for the project.

The cable car will be able to cover the distance in 4 minutes and will be able to transport 1100 people per hour. The estimated cost of the project is 50 million GEL.

"After the opening of the ropeway, people will no longer need to drive to get to Mtatsminda," said Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze.

The ropeway was originally supposed to connect Rose Square and Mtatsminda, but later the location of the lower station was changed to a new location on the old ropeway station near the Academy of Sciences.

It should be noted that recently, the Tbilisi Transport Company requested a simplified procurement of 8.3 million for the cableway project from Rustaveli Avenue to Mtatsminda.

The full value of the contract signed with Dopplemayr on 5 June 2012 (EUR 4 064 300) has already been reimbursed.
