Chinese Investor May Suspend Plastic Recycling Pant Project in Kutaisi FIZ
The Government of Georgia plans to adopt the law that may hinder the construction of a plastics recycling plant in Kutaisi Free Industrial Zone (FIZ), Soso Nibladze, head of Kutaisi FIZ Hualing told Business Partner.
"The initial draft resolution has been prepared, but the parliament has not adopted this law yet”, Nibladze noted. Chinese investors were ready to launch the project, but the process was suspended by the government’s decision. As noted by Nibladze, the Government plans to ban imports of used plastics wastes. If the government adopts this law, then the 10-million-USD project will not be implemented in Kutaisi FIZ, Nibladze noted.
"The investor has taken the decision to suspend investments and supervise the process. Consequently, the investor will take steps after the real picture is outlined. This is the investor that planned to implement the analogical project in Khobi. The project was worth GEL 50 million. The Government justifies the decision by harmonizing our legislation with the EU legislation”, Nibladze noted. Plastics granulating plant was launched in test regime in Kutaisi FIZ. The project’s investment value marked USD 2 million. Hualing FIZ launched an operation on October 1, 2015, under the Government’s decision on the former territory of Kutaisi Automobile Plant. The FIZ will operate on the mentioned territory for a period of 30 years.
