Baku-Tbilisi-Kars Railroad Turnover Grows

Cargo turnover of Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railroad has nearly doubled, Anadolu news agency reports referring to the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure of Turkey.

In the first quarter of 2021, BTK railroad transported 154.8 thousand tons of cargo, while the figure marked 78,000 tons in the same period of 2020.

The year on year growth constituted 198%. Through BTK infrastructure, Turkey transports containers to Georgia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Central Asia countries, Russia and China. The Suez Channel crisis has increased the importance of the Middle Corridor. In 2020, BTK railroad handled 396,778 tons of cargo, up 104% year on year.
