Arrangement of a Tourist Attraction on Enguri Dam Postponed

Arrangement of a tourist zone in the vicinity of the Enguri Dam has been postponed. The reason is the crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

According to the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, the process of selecting investors will resume after the situation stabilizes.

As of today, the alternatives prepared by Collier International Georgia are being evaluated and project financing schemes are being discussed.

The company completed the socio-economic research of the project last year. The investment cost of the recommended attractions as a result of the research is 37.813 million GEL. The first stage is the arrangement of a 1250-meter zipline and a viewing platform, although the identity of the investor is not yet known.

The term of full implementation of the project is 5 years. Enguri HPP will be the first industrial monument in the country, where a museum-information space will be arranged. The project also includes panoramic elevator, ropeway and bus tours, as well as water sports and tunnel projects.

During the planning of the project, it was said that if the project is implemented, the tourist zone on the dam will serve up to 400,000 tourists a year and will become the most profitable tourist facility in the region.
