Andria Gvidiani: Competitive Tariffs Make Azerbaijani Electricity Imports More Favorable

In January-February 2021, Georgia’s electricity imports have extremely grown and exceeded 700 million kw/h, after rehabilitation works were underway at Enguri HPP. Azerbaijan and Russia remain as key electricity suppliers.

As noted by economic expert Andria Gvidiani, it is more favorable to purchase electricity from Azerbaijan thanks to lower tariffs.

“It is much more interesting to purchase Azerbaijani electricity compared to other suppliers, thanks to competitive tariffs. Therefore, the government acts reasonably when giving preference to competitive and favorable offers. The electricity imports consist of 3 various prices: daytime, night, and weekend tariffs.

For example, Russian electricity imports prices are 7.8/4.1/4.1, while the same tariffs for Azerbaijani electricity imports are much lower 0- 5.4/3.9/3.9. Therefore, the country imports electricity from Azerbaijan. It should be also noted that Russian electricity is supplied to de-facto Abkhazia. Therefore, the Georgia-controlled territory receives only Azerbaijani electricity”, Andria Gvidiani noted.
