Working in Hollywood with Voltage Pictures - Story of Miranda Namicheishvili
Miranda Namicheishvili is a young film director from Georgia, who had an opportunity to work in Hollywood with Voltage Pictures.
How did you get to know about this company, and what procedures did you have to pass through until becoming an intern in Hollywood?
I have heard about The Creative Mind Group by FilmFreeway. While at the Cannes Film Festival, I participated in a project by FilmFreeway. This project meant choosing young film directors and artists working in the film industry and, therefore, shooting a short film over the course of 2 weeks. As a result, I was chosen as a film director. During the Cannes Film Festival, together with the team, we shot a 10-minutes-long film, which was screened at the Cannes Film Festival. Following the end of the program, I got an invitation to a one-week internship from the same company in Hollywood, Voltage Pictures. In November, as part of the American film industry, I was working with an organizational team at Voltage Pictures.
How would you describe the working process in Hollywood?
The working space was extremely interesting and friendly. I found out about the film distribution processes, and how film is thought of, as a product.
What values did you gain from the experience?
First and foremost, I became more punctual, and started looking closer at the details. Also, it gave me the ability to be ready for unexpected circumstances, to start improvising while still feeling bewildered.
What were the difficulties you had to overcome in Cannes or Hollywood?
The main difficulty was related to Cannes, which was time restrictions. It is not a simple process to shoot a complete film in 10 days, even a short film. There were many sleepless nights, some vagueness in the planing. We were working without breaks. Despite these circumstances, and maybe because of a little bit of panic, we met our deadline, and also earned applause. The main struggle in Hollywood was the 12-hour-long working schedule. That was the reason why we, as employees were switching each other's schedules.
What are your future plans?
One of the producers of Voltage Pictures became interested in my work, and mentioned that they were looking for new film directors. Of course, this is related to my future plans. At this moment, I am finishing my master's degree in film directing, and I am preparing to shoot my next film. After finishing university, I plan on America being my next destination.
