University of Georgia to Present Mars Rover Analogue in Partnership with NASA

NASA's Perseverance Rover will land on Mars this week. The University of Georgia is a partner of NASA in this significant expedition.

The analog model of the Perseverance rover will be made in Georgia and with the support of the school of science and technologies, a special event will be held, where the Perseverance rover will be presented live, on February 18th, from 23:30 to 01:00. NASA's representatives will address the participants of the event.

Representatives of NASA, the US Ambassador to Georgia, the Government, the University of Georgia, the School of Science and Technology, and UG-Limes will be involved in the broadcast of the event.

A key science objective of Perseverance’s mission on Mars is astrobiology, including the search for signs of ancient microbial life. The rover will characterize the planet’s geology and past climate, paving the way for human exploration of the Red Planet, and will be the first mission to collect and cache Martian rock and sediment for later return to Earth. Subsequent NASA missions, in cooperation with ESA (European Space Agency), would send spacecraft to Mars to collect these sealed samples from the surface and return them to Earth for in-depth analysis.
