Two Funicular Railway Projects Implemented in Tbilisi
Two funicular railway projects - Samgori-Vazisubani and Sarajishvili-Zgvis Ubani will be implemented in Tbilisi.
"Transport policy for us is utterly relevant. It consists of several components. We've already taken steps in this field to renew public transport park. This process has already started and soon we will complete the project of replacing yellow buses.
In 2016, consulting company "Sistra" supported by AFD conducted a survey of funicular railways throughout the city. Its purpose was to identify potential rope corridors that would enable the development of rope lines in Tbilisi. When we started working on transport policy, we used this research and ordered the local company "Geographics" to allocate corridors where ropeway projects could be implemented. We chose the projects of Samgori-Vazisubani and Sarajishvili-Zgvis Ubani, which will be implemented supported by AFD."
According to Kakha Kaladze, the funds are already allocated for the project of Samgori-Vazisubani. The price of the full investment is approximately 30 million Euros.
