Smiling Georgia Becomes the Winner of East Doc Platform
The Georgian documentary "Smiling Georgia" became one of the winners of the East Doc Platform, a film production, fundraising and distribution platform.
The film won the category Cut Thru The Noise. The project was selected by Andrea Hock, Head of Autlook Filmsales and Mirjam Wiekenkamp.
East Doc Platform is one of the numerous projects of the Czech Documentary Film Institute (IDF). The institute was founded in 2001 and has contributed to a number of important Eastern European projects over the past 20 years.
"Smiling Georgia" is a joint product of Georgia and Germany. The project is directed by Luka Beradze, and the producers are Nino Chichua and Ana Khazaradze. The film is shot with the support of the Georgian National Film Center.
A documentary is about about the participants of the 2012 presidential project, "Smiling Georgia". In the run-up to the elections, the Georgian government has developed a program to provide free dental care to the elderly population of Chiatura. Several patients had their teeth already removed and were awaiting a prosthetic procedure, which was scheduled after the election. The project was suspended after the election.
The picture deserved a special mention at the Lisbon Documentary Film Festival in 2020.
