'Beginning' to be Named in the Official Selection of Cannes International Film Festival
According to the National Film Center of Georgia, this is the third time that Dea Kulumbegashvili's film has been screened at the Cannes Film Festival.
The director's debut work "Invisible Spaces" was presented in the short film competition program and in 2016, another short film by Dea Kulumbegashvili "Leta" was shown in the "Directors' Two-Week" section.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, this year the Cannes International Film Festival will not be held in the traditional way, none of the sections will be competitive. Officially selected films will be distributed at film festivals in Toronto, San Sebastián, New York, Venice, Busan, and Lumiere. It is unknown yet on which film festival the film "Beginning" will be premiered.
The film tells the story of a group of Jehova's Witnesses, who are being attacked by an extremist group in the sleeping provincial town. Yana is the wife of the leader of Jehova's witnesses. Her familiar world is slowly collapsing in the midst of the conflict. Yana's inner resentment grows as she begins to analyze her own desires.
