African Savannah to Build on 9 hectares in New Tbilisi Zoo
According to the director of Tbilisi's Zoo, Zurab Gurielidze, part of the animals are transported and a large aviary is already built for carnivorous birds. Due to pandemic and lack of resources, Tbilisi Zoo could not change its address this year either. However, a tender is announced for the construction of a 9-hectare sanctuary for African animals, which Zurab Gurielidze predicts will be completed next year.
A large aviary is currently under construction, carnivorous to birds. Due to the pandemic and lack of resources, Tbilisi Zoo could not change its address this year either. However, a tender has already been announced for the construction of a 9-hectare sanctuary for African animals, which Gurielidze predicts will be completed next year.
"African savannah will be the largest aviary in the zoo, its area will be 8-9 hectares. This aviary will be great for African animals, including behemoths, giraffes, rhinos, zebras, and antelopes. 2 million 200 thousand GEL has been allocated for this. In the tender, as usual, the process was delayed, someone reduced the price, someone complained, and so on.
The state is financing us, but if there is additional funding, it will all be hastened. When the savannah is finished, we will do some infrastructural work and hope to give it all a final look next year.", noted Zurab Gurielidze.
