Starlink's Launch in Georgia Spurs Telecom Growth and Attracts Global Firms

Ekaterine Imadedze, a member of the Communications Commission, recently highlighted the impact of Starlink’s entry into the Georgian market during an interview on the "Business Partner" program. She emphasized that Starlink's launch represents a significant advancement in Georgia's telecom sector and serves as a catalyst for other major companies considering entering the Georgian market.

Starlink, SPACE-X's high-speed internet service, began its operations in Georgia just a month ago, following its authorization in July 2022. "The journey to this launch has been a year-long, active process involving not just the Communications Commission but various agencies, given the range of issues at play, including security," Imadedze explained.

She credited Georgia's strategic position for aiding this development, alongside the country's market openness and legislative alignment with European Union standards, particularly in electronic communications. "These factors were key in persuading Starlink to choose Georgia as their starting point in the Caucasus and Middle East regions," Imadedze noted.

The introduction of Starlink in Georgia has broadened options for both businesses and individuals, and it's anticipated that the company will soon engage directly with customers and roll out its strategies.

Currently, Starlink is focusing on resolving legal and operational aspects to ensure flexible functioning within the country.

Starlink, part of SpaceX's ambitious project, is recognized as one of the most advanced satellite broadband Internet systems globally. It offers high-speed, low-latency internet across the world, particularly in regions with unreliable or non-existent internet connectivity. To date, SpaceX has deployed over 2,700 low-orbit (LEO) satellites to support the Starlink network.
