Spanish Watermelons to Harvest in Lagodekhi

Farmer Iva Chkonia, a partner of GDB company, started to plant several varieties of watermelons originally produced in Spain. 

According to him, watermelons are now grown on half a hectare and the current year is a test year for production. They received up to 10 tons of product, which can be purchased in stores of "Goodwill" amounting to approximately 3 GEL per kilogram.

"We, together with our partner Rijk Zwaan were the first producers to start growing the Sandissima varieties. We finished harvesting the first crop and the product is now available in Goodwill stores located in Saburtalo and Digomi. The market value is more expensive than the standard one, because we bring it under special conditions, and the price of our seedlings is several times higher than the price of a standard watermelon seedling."
