Khvanchkara Winery Restaurant and Showroom Closed for an Indefinite Period of Time

"We don't know when the flow of tourists will be resumed in the country, so we are refraining from opening Khvanchkara Winery restaurant and Showroom located in Tbilisi.", noted one of the winners of Forbes Georgia 30under30 list, and director of Khvanchkara Winery, Giorgi Chanturia and added, that the work will be renewed as soon as Georgia will open its international borders.

"We are offering customers in our showroom Georgian cuisine and wine. The very idea of promoting this service to people came from tourists. They wanted to see how the wine was made, what kind of processes it underwent, and where it was kept and stored, perhaps, they did not have a time to come to our factory. The factory is located in the village Khvanchkara of Ambrolauri Municipality, Racha. So we brought the same service to Tbilisi and hosted guests before pandemic. Guests mostly were from France, Polland, and the Czech Republic. Also, they came from post-soviet countries, including Russia, and Ukraine. Therefore, we are mainly focused on international tourists, and in a post-pandemic situation, when the borders are closed, resuming work loses its appeal.", declared Giorgi Chanturia.

Chanturia also explained, that 70% of wine sales were in the domestic market and 30% were exported, and during the pandemic, these numbers dropped significantly. However, both production and rehabilitation works were not suspended. In the future, company plans to build a hotel on the territory of factory, which will promote tourism infrastructure development in Racha.
