Coffee Lab: There may be a Shortage of coffee in Georgia in Coming Years
Giorgi Aivaziani, the founder of the Coffee Lab, believes that the country may face a shortage of coffee in the coming years due to global problems. Including crops destroyed by frost in July this year in Brazil.
The company had to raise prices last summer, when the Georgian lari depreciated sharply.
"In the coffee market after July this year, it was caused on the one hand by the pandemic and related logistical problems, and on the other hand by the frost that hit Brazil in July, which actually damaged a lot of coffee beans.
Coffee production in Brazil will actually be reduced by 15%, and Brazil is the largest supplier of coffee in the world, and we may have a shortage of coffee in the coming years." - Aivaziani said.
For reference, in 10 months of 2021, Georgia bought less coffee than in 2020 and 2019. According to official statistics, 5,101 tons of coffee were imported from different countries this year, which is 3% less than last year's imports, and a decrease of 8% compared to 2019.
