Abbetineo Plans to Export Wild Snails from Georgia to EU

Abbetineo plans to collect wild snails in Georgia and export them to other European countries.

The company says it has already been able to obtain large contracts in EU countries under which a snail processing plant is under construction.

The construction of the enterprise will cost 1.7 million euros and it will be put into operation on May 15. The enterprise will process snails according to international standards and prepare them for export.

Representatives of Abbetineo spoke about the plans at a meeting held at the International Economic Relations Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia. Representatives of the company spoke at the meeting about the importance of meetings with snail importers in France, Greece, Romania, Bulgaria, and the Baltic States with the involvement of the Georgian Foreign Ministry. According to them, it became possible to win contracts at these meetings.

Export of snails from Georgia to the EU market is allowed from December 2021 (Regulation of the European Commission of December 22, 2021, EU2022 / 34). As of April 15, the first batch of up to three tons of Georgian snails has already been exported to the European market, in particular in Italy.
