Guguli Maghradze: Parliament Will Not Allow Revision of Tobacco Control Regulations
Guguli Maghradze has rejected the Georgian Business Association's legislative proposal to amend the law on tobacco control.
The MP hopes that the parliamentary committee will not discuss the initiative.
The case is for lifting constrictions on new, so-called heated tobacco products.
Maghradze says that the Tobacco Control Law belongs to the category of legislation that both the legislature and the public are proud of and that Parliament will therefore not allow it to be weakened and revised.
"The law passed by the Parliament on Tobacco Control against tobacco smoking has introduced good regulation in Georgia, which has helped to maintain the health of many people. But we know there is a tobacco industry that is very strong all over the world, well represented in Georgia, and their efforts have always been, are and will be to make some adjustments to gain some privileges and weaken the rule of law.
One of the legislative initiatives of this kind has been introduced by the Georgian Business Association, which should be discussed in the Committee on Health Care and Social Affairs, and I hope that my colleagues will not discuss this initiative. The issue will be to prevent the existing restrictions on new tobacco products - heated tobacco, ”said Guguli Maghradze.
