Malaysia Is The Cheapest Country In The World For Flights

Flight website Kiwi.com has released its second annual Flight Price Index, showing which countries in the world offer the most affordable flights as measured per 100km of travel.

To calculate the rankings, it analysed over a million flights across 80 countries to find an average price of short-haul and long-haul flights, on both low-cost and full-service airlines.

Malaysia had an average cost of 4.18USD (RM17.80) per 100km of travel.Among the top 10 cheapest countries (after Malaysia) were Bulgaria, India, Turkey, Romania, Indonesia, Portugal, Thailand, Sweden, and Spain.

The most expensive are flights originating from Belgium where the average cost is USD54.63 (RM233.17) per 100km,

The website said the purpose of its index is “to help make travellers aware of countries that offer good opportunities for affordable travel”.

“Ticket prices fluctuate constantly and for many reasons. Some of the changes from one year to the next can be attributed to fuel prices, sociopolitical shifts like Brexit, and recent elections,” said Kiwi.com chief executive Oliver Dlouhý.

The index also drills down into the cost of domestic flights, full service domestic flights, international flights, and full service international flights, which are aggregated to work out the overall average.

Romania offers the cheapest non-service domestic flight at USD3.04 (RM13.00) per 100km while Sweden offers the cheapest non-service international fares at USD1.31 (RM5.58) per 100km.
