Iran’s Parliament Approves Nuclear Deal

The bill on the implementation of Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) was approved Tuesday with 161 votes in favor out of total 250 votes from the lawmakers who were present in Majlis (parliament) Irna reported.

59 parliamentarians voted against and 13 abstained.
On October 11, Iranian parliament ratified the general outline of a single-urgency bill on the JCPOA.After the total of 253 lawmakers cast their votes, the bill on the general outline was approved with 139 votes in favor, 100 against and 12 abstentions.

“Members of parliament made a well-considered decision today showing they have a good understanding of the country’s situation,” government spokesman Mohammad Baqer Nobakht said in a televised news conference after the vote.

Iran’s parliament, or Majlis, approved legislation in June giving it power to review the deal. A resolution disapproving of the deal failed in the U.S. Senate.
