On July 5th, Seedstars World, the biggest seed stage startup competition in emerging markets, selected the best startup in Kazakhstan during the pitching finals Seedstars Astana, hosted by the first international tech park in Central Asia – Astana Hub.
Seedstars World, the largest seed-stage startup competition for emerging markets and fast-growing startup scenes, brought its Kazakhstan round to a successful close during Seedstars Astana. The event took place last Thursday, at Astana Hub, the first international tech park in Central Asia, and 10 selected startups were invited to present their companies in front of the local jury panel.
Prior to the pitching event, Seedstars team screened 50+ applications from all the country to select 10 finalists in the domains like agritech, edtech, fintech, healthtech and cybersecurity. The focus was on the profitable seed stage startups, with MVP and ability to regional and global scalability.
The local winner, WebTotem, SaaS platform which provides powerful tools for securing and monitoring the website in one place in easy and flexible way, was named “Best Startup in Kazakhstan” for its innovative sustainable solution.
As a part of the prize, WebTotem will be participating at the Seedstars Summit, which takes place in Switzerland, in April 2019. It is a weeklong training program, with the opportunity to meet the 65+ winners from other fast growing economies, as well as investors and mentors from around the world. The final day of the Summit is dedicated to pitching in front of an audience of more than 1000 attendees, with the possibility of winning up to USD 1 million in equity investment and other prizes.
Seedstars Astana also featured panel discussion about the key factors that can boost the technology and entrepreneurship in Central Asia. Decent infrastructure, education, and networking were mentioned as key features for the regional technological development.
Astana Hub, which hosted the event in their renovated 4-stores building, was created by the Kazakhstan government to fulfill the mission to support the tech companies in the region.
Though Astana Hub is not officially opened yet, the Hub team have already organized over 60 events for the startups, as well as the entire acceleration program.
Astana Hub will open its doors to the tech companies from all the Central Asia, but European startups are also welcomed to apply. By becoming the Hub residents, they will get a lot of free perks, including:
