Counterfeit Georgian Wines Extracted from Polish Trade Network

As a result of coordinated activities of Georgian and EU official structures, counterfeit Georgian wines were taken out of one the major trade networks of Poland.

Giorgi Samanishvili, head of national wine agency, noted that labels of wine bottled in Ukraine indicated the Georgian name of origin – Kakheti.

Therefore, National Wine Agency and SakPatenti, intellectual property national center, applied to general directorate of European Commission concerning the mentioned counterfeit product, he said. 

“According to instructions issued by the general directorate of European Commission to Ministry of Agriculture of Poland, networks of supermarkets were inspected in Poland. The inspection found out that the mentioned product was bottled in Ukraine and it was sold under the name of Kakheti. As a result, the counterfeit product was extracted from the turnover”, Giorgi Samanishvili said.
