Zurab Pololikashvili, Georgia’s candidate for the post of Secretary General of UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) has been approved.
The candidature of Zurab Pololikashvili was presented by his country, Georgia, in accordance with the UNWTO statutes.
The UNWTO General Assembly unanimously supported the decision of the Executive Council of 12 May 2017 and Zurab Pololikashvili to become UN Secretary General’s Secretary.
It is noteworthy that this is the first case when a Georgian candidate will take this position at international organization.
According to the Foreign Ministry, approval of the new Secretary General was held within the 22nd session of UNWTO General Assembly, In Chengdu, China.
Georgian delegation led by the Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mikheil Janelidze that participates in the General Assembly of the World Tourism attended the procedure.
Zurab Pololikashvili was Minister of Economic Development of Georgia (2009-2010) and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia (2005-2006).
