Google’s Voice Search system is in the process of improvement. The company works on a new system, which does not require any Internet connection.
The new system was tested on Nexus 5 which is 7 times faster than online system. Thus, offline voice recognition works as the outcome obtained was positive.
Currently, Google has very limited offline capabilities and more advanced commands need to be sent and processed by a server. But the process often fails due to the unreliable networks. The system uses a single model for both dictation and voice commands.
To further squeeze the size, additional compression techniques were used in the system. It was trained by exposure to 3 million anonymous voice samples from Google search.
According to the experts there were only 13.5 percent error rate found during the testing process. It should be noted that there is no need of network connection, that you might compare with the same engines Google Now and Apple Siri have.
