Tobacco Producers and Importers were Ordered to Submit Conclusions of International Laboratories

Tobacco producers and importers will be obliged to submit conclusions of international laboratories at the Ministry of Health.

The conclusion should indicate the amount of substances contained in the product. If importers and manufacturers fail to meet standards, the product can not be sold and will be removed right away.

According to the standards, the substances that are exposed to filtered and non-filtered cigarettes should be 10 mg per cup, for nicotine – 1 mg per serving and 10 mg of gas per gallon (only for filtering cigarettes).

“The tobacco industry will be obliged to provide laboratory conclusions. The document should be certified by an accredited international laboratory. However, at different times, it is possible to check at random. We will find out whether the products are actually checked in the laboratory. In case of violation of the conditions, the cigarette box will be removed and destroyed, which means the tobacco producers will be affected, “Lela Sturua, the head of the Department of Disease Control, said.

The producer or importer must present the document confirming the standards before 31 May, each year.
