With the support of the EU and Borjomi Municipality, an outdoor wrestling arena has been constructed in Akhaldaba village as part of a rural development project under the European Neighbourhood Programme for Agriculture and Rural Development (ENPARD).
According to ENPARD, the newly built arena meets the standards of Georgian wrestling. At present, over 40 local children attend training at the arena. This initiative offers local children the possibility to exercise traditional sports in their own village, without needing to commute to big cities.
Next year, Akhaldaba plans to arrange an athletics village and host the Georgian wrestling championship.
The EU, through the ENPARD programme, supports social and economic activities in rural areas to help Georgia achieve sustainable economic development.
