The USA considers that diversification of energy suppliers is essential, ambassador Ian Kelly said that Georgia should not be dependent on one source of energy.
Ambassador of the USA has talked about this topic with the reporters on Monday and commented on the negotiations held between Georgian government and Gazprom.
In addition, Ian C. Kelly noted, that “the government must be more transparent linked to its energy policy”.
The government is rather open with us and we have expressed our position, that Georgia should not become dependent on one source of energy and keep diversification. We are satisfied with the explanations of the Georgian government.
“I think Georgia does have a short-term energy need and it should talk to all potential energy suppliers. We have expressed our concern over the fact that Georgian territories are occupied by Russia. However, I hope, that Georgian government understands this decision,” Ian C. Kelly declared.
