Two Georgian Movies Nominated at Beijing International Film Festival

The movies Scary Mother and Dede by the Georgian directors Ana Urushadze and Mariam Khachvani have been nominated at The Beijing International Film Festival.

Last year, Georgian cinematographers won four out of 10 major prizes at the same festival. “Luka,” directed by Giorgi Barabadze, won the nomination for best feature movie. Lia Kapanadze won an award for the best performance in the same film.

Founded in 2011, the film festival is sponsored by the municipal Beijing government. Since its launch, the festival has been heavily attended by Hollywood executives, directors, producers and studio heads. As China’s box office has expanded exponentially over the past decade, the festival aims to provide a high-profile forum for the Chinese and international film industries.
