“THAT MAN AGAIN….Mamuka Gorgodze was one of the stars of #RWC2015 and the Georgian statistics show why,” reads the Rugby World Cup’s official Twitter account.
Indeed, Gorgodze won in four out of five of Georgia’s comparative figures in Rugby World Cup
Apart from recognition of Gorgodze within the team’s statistics, the Georgian Rugby team captain was featured in prestigious Rugby World Magazine’s “Team of the Pool Stage.” The list included world renown players such as Ben Smith (New Zealand, 15th place), Ian Henderson (Ireland, 4th place), and Scott Sio (Australia, 1st place).
Gorgodze was given the 7th spot in the prestigious nomination:
7 Mamuka Gorgodze (Georgia)
He should never have won Man of the Match v New Zealand, but he was awesome against Tonga (24 tackles and a try), and Georgia fell apart without him when he was sin-binned v Argentina. He made 17 offloads and won seven turnovers, and his giant personality was writ large across this World Cup. Wears seven, where he faced the Kiwis, but can swap in at No 8. Thierry Dusautoir and Francois Louw unlucky to miss out.
Sadly, the world will not see Georgia play against tier 1 teams for another four years, until Japan 2019.
