”World Car Free Day” was founded in 2000 by the European Commission and since then it has been actively celebrated in many countries of Europe and around the world. The international date aims at promoting environmental awareness, public transport, bicycle and walking, moving around with less private cars in the city’s central neighborhoods.

The main call of the day is that citizens refrain from using a personal car for one day, walk or use alternate and healthy transport – bicycle, public transport.

The marathon will be organized by the East-West Management Institute with the support of the Civil Society Development and Citizens Involvement Project (ACCESS) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). Co-organizers of the event are New Society and Ecology.
