Samegrelo Region to Spend 15 million EUR on New Sanitary Trash Dump Construction

A new trash dump will be constructed in the village of Tsatskhvi, the Zugdidi municipality. The project’s investment value makes up 15 million EUR. The construction works will be financed by the development bank of Germany. The early project has been already developed.

International experts will be involved in the project development. The trash dump will meet ecological standards and an international tender will be announced for its construction, Giorgi Shukhoshvili, the solid wastes management company director, said.

After the project implementation, trash dump ranges in the Region will be closed and only one regional trash dump will operate. The region has already closed five trash dumps and the next one will be closed in accordance with international standards in 2016.

A gas collector system will be also installed on the new trash dump and the population will use the received gas for greenhouses. A water collection and filtration system will be also arranged on the trash dump, the so-called reserve trenches.
