In 2015, a major part of investments – $594 million were invested in Georgia’s transportation and communications sphere, which is 37 percent more than in 2014.
Some 44 percent of the total foreign direct investments in the Georgian economy in 2015 accounted for the transportation and communications field, a report of Georgia’s National Statistics Office said. In 2015, the total amount of the foreign direct investments in Georgia was over $1.35 billion, which is 6 percent more than in 2014, according to the report.
The investments in the country’s financial sector totaled $191 million, which is 66 percent more than in 2014. Azerbaijan is a leader for investments in Georgia in 2015 by investing $542 million (40 percent of the total foreign direct investments) in the country’s economy, said the report.
The UK (15 percent), Netherlands (eight percent) are also among in the top three, according to the report. Russia invested $49 million in Georgia in 2015, which is less than four percent of the total investments, said the report.
