Organizers of Restore Campaign Pledge to Fully Restore Burnt Woodland in Borjomi

The burnt woodland will be fully restored as part of the Restore campaign, the project organizers noted.

The time and date for resuming the planting works depends on expert conclusions about territory and soil conditions, they noted.

Social campaign Restore started on April 25 thanks to united efforts of business sector and ordinary citizens with the aim to restore the part of Borjomi woodland that was burnt by Russian invaders in 2008. About 170 companies and 6000 physical bodies joined the woodland restoration process. In spring 32 300 trees were planted on 11.6 hectares and in September the organizers planned to plant trees on 10 hectares in addition.

We confirm that 80% of the trees planted by us have been annihilated by fire. Only those trees near the village of Daba have been saved. Full report about losses will be introduced after National Forest Agency explores the territory.

Organizers of the campaign pledge to fully restore the burnt territory.

The campaign was planned to finish by September 15, however, after natural disaster the campaign will be continued in intensified regime up to full restoration of the woodland.
