Organ Transplantation Association has created a web site where people can register themselves in their lifetime if they want to become as an organ donor after death.
In Georgia there is only living donation possible but no cadaver donation is developed yet. Despite the fact that the law does not prohibit cadaver donation, for the public it is very difficult to decide personally, whether the organs of the close person to be used for transplantation after the death.
Gia Tomadze, the head of the “Transplantation Association” noted that several hundreds of people have been already registered on the web site.
“There are two ways for the registration. One way is to register via online or physically be presented in the Association.
If you wish to become a donor, you will be given a donor card, which indicates that after the death the organ of your body can be used for transplantation. Several hundreds of donors we already have, but fortunately, no one has been died yet”, – said Gia Tomadze.
Registration is available on the web site : www.transplantation.ge
