Kazbegi Marathon 2015

For the 6th time already, in 2015, 5th September “Kazbegi Trail Marathon”was held traditionally. The Marathon is international and it hosted Georgian, as well as foreign runners.

The Marathon took place in Stepantsminda and its surroundings, at the background of fascinating Great Caucasus Mountains. It is worth mentioning that Kazbegi Marathon is listed among world’s adventurous marathons.

The Marathon took place on 4 distances:

-Full Marathon – 42km
-Half Marathon – 21km
-Fun Run – 8km
-Relay Race – 42km (for groups and organizations)

This year 267 runners from 26 countries participated in marathon. Among participants were Georgian businessmen, representatives of diplomatic corps and tourists.

The winners of 8km run became Georgian runners (Tengiz Gvijilia and Tamar Gelashvili), Georgian and German runners covered the distance of the half marathon and the winners of full marathon covering 42 kilometers were Pole Piotr Sawicki, and Japanese  Hiroko Ogawa.

As for the relay-run all of three prizes were distributed to representatives of Ministry of Defence.

The “Kazbegi Marathon” slogan is “Child Leukemia is Curable.” Each registered member automatically became a charity worker. Part of the fee paid for registration went to benefit children sick with leukemia, which includes oncological and hematological patient coverage who’ve arrived from regions and are undergoing treatment in Tbilisi’s Parents’ House.

Sponsor of marathon is tourist agency “Visit Georgia”.
