The Cabinet of Germany approved the recognition of Georgia and other countries (Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia) as safe descent states.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the new regulation aims to reduce the timing of consideration of shelter applications from these countries, as positive decisions on granting asylum to citizens of above mentioned are very low. According to the same information, only 0.6% of the total number of applications for asylum seekers from Georgia are being satisfied.
The German government believes that the legislative act will be a clear signal from those countries not to ask for shelter, as due to democratic standard citizens are not oppressed.
Federal Government estimates that the number of applicants from these countries will be substantially reduced.
