Georgian Rugby Team Makes Historical Step Forward at World Rugby Rankings

World Rugby official website, worldrugby.org, renewed the world rankings. According to recent data Georgia is one position ahead.

According to website Georgia was listed among the biggest climbers of 2016, together with Ireland, England, Uruguay and Belgium. Apart from this Georgia outstrip Tonga, which ranked 12th.

Rugby is one of the most popular sports in Georgia. The full national team qualified for the 2003 Rugby World Cup – playing against rugby powers such as Ireland and France. The Lelos also qualified for the 2007 Rugby World Cup in France, where they beat Namibia 30–0 for their first ever World Cup win. As of 6 August 2015, Georgia were ranked 13th in the world by World Rugby. Since 2013, Georgia has played host to the IRB Tbilisi Cup.
