The final shot of the advertisement reads: “Littering is a punishable act in Georgia. For dropping household waste up to 2kg, the fine is 80 GEL. For 2kg or more – 150 GEL, for a legal entity – 500 GEL.”

Tougher penalties for littering came into force in January.

Last year, about nine tonnes of garbage was removed from one of Georgia’s most spectacular mountains.

A massive cleaning effort involving helicopters took place on Mount Kazbek in northeast Georgia. Clean-up crew’s efforts saw about nine tonnes of rubbish waste removed from the towering peak in October 2014.
