City Hall to Introduce Hourly and Zonal Parking System in 2019

Starting January 1, 2019, Tbilisi City Hall will start implementing a pilot project for introduction of hourly-zonal parking payment system in central areas of Tbilisi, Vice mayor Irakli Khmalade noted at presentation of the capital city transport policy.

The parking system efficient regulation policy is to develop the transportation system, he said.

“Hourly and zonal parking system is a quite strong instrument to regulate both demand and supply of parking places, and manage transport flows. Money raised from this system will be directed to the transport system development. The system is to reduce demand in the zones with critically high demand for parking places. As a result, the demand for public transport will increase.

In this way we will additionally stimulate our citizens to travel with comfortable transport and do not care for parking places”, Irakli Khmaladze said.

Over the past years the Central Government and Tbilisi City Hall actively care for development of comfortable and safe public transport, he said.
