Azerbaijan Oil Research Center: There are no Huge Natural Gas Reserves in Georgia

The statement spread by Frontera Resources on discovered huge natural gas resources in the southern part of the Kakheti Region, has caused confusion in neighboring Azerbaijan.

The Azerbaijani media agencies have spread a statement by Ilham Shaban, the head of the Oil Research Center of Azerbaijan. Shaban asserts that there could not be huge natural gas reserves in Georgia.

The information spread by Frontera Resources on huge natural gas reserves in southern Kakheti serves a growth of its shares in market value, Ilham Shaban said.

“This company has been searching natural gas reserves on this territory for many years, but no significant reserves have been found previously. As to new reserves, they may be genuinely exist, but not in such volumes. 5.3 trillion cubic meter reserves equal five ShahDeniz fields.

Seemingly, these are geological reserves and it is not famous whether these reserves can be employed. Even in his case these reserves cannot be of regional importance. This gas can be supplied to specific settlements”, Ilham Shaban said.
