Sector Economy Committee did not support the determination of upper limits of the salaries for the regulatory commissions employees and the Partnership Fund Executive Director.
The initiative belongs to the opposition MP Akaki Bobokhidze, who says that a salary of the Partnership Fund’s chief executive officer is GEL 21 thousand, a salary of the Chairman of National Communications Commission – GEL 16 thousand 640, while the Chairman of the Georgian National Energy Regulatory Commission gets a monthly salary of GEL 12 thousand.
The discussion was attended by the representatives from the regulatory authorities. They believe that the bill limits the independence on the one hand, and on the other hand, contradicts the European regulations. Chairman of the Committee expressed a negative position as well. In Zurab Tkemaladze’s words, the reduction in wages will lead to the outflow of professional to the private sector.
