The so-called Environmental Performance Index (EPI), is a method of quantifying and numerically marking the environmental performance of a state’s policies. Thus, EPI ranks countries’ performance on high-priority environmental issues in two areas: protection of human health and protection of ecosystems.
On 23 January 2016, the 2016 Environmental Performance Index was released at the World Economic Forum, with 180 countries being ranked.
In terms of EPI Georgia keeps 111st position among 180 countries.
The authors of the indices represented from Yale University and Columbia University were taking into consideration 9 basic factors. Including, taking care of public health, water resources and forest zones, agriculture, fisheries, air quality, the conditions of water resources in the country, the sanitation norms of nature and environment, and so on.
According to the index, as the world’s most green country Finland was named, after this Iceland, Sweden, Denmark and Slovenia were followed.
Additionally, Somalia, Eritrea, Madagascar and Niger are standing on the last step.
According to EPI- it is showed that the mortality rate is more when having polluted air and not – contaminated water.
