Technological Centers will Have to Meet the Standard of SGS for Continuing Activities

Technical inspection will become universal and compulsory for all types of vehicle from 2018, – Deputy Economy Minister said at the conference held on the periodic technical inspection on motor vehicles.

The conference was attended by representatives of government, non-government and private sector as well as donor organizations and experts.

According to Giorgi Cherkezishvili, 26 centers of technical inspection are functioning today. If they meet the standards of Swiss company “SGS”, they will be able to continue their work in the future.

According to him, technical inspection process has already begun for high passage, long distance and local carriers.

“We know that the deadline for inspections is September 1, 2018 as of the obligation undertaken by the Association Agreement with the European Union. However, this is an assignment that we should not start with the previous day. First of all, the implementation of this reform will begin on January 1, because the drivers will have to take a certain period of time to participate in the process. For them, this reform is not painful. The unfavorable conditions of our fleet should be taken into consideration, the existing social background and so on”, – said Eka Laliashvili, head of the “Alliance for Safe Roads”.
