Tadumadze: Tobacco Sales New Regulations are Excessively Strict

Governmentэs parliamentary secretary Shalva Tadumadze says that new regulations for tobacco product sales are excessively strict.

Namely, he made emphasis on one of the articles of the bill, which calls for sales of tobacco products under the counter and simplifying the packing  format, starting January 1, 2019.

Tadumadze put forward two alternative versions at the health committee meeting.

“We have discussed two alternatives: we should either maintain the existing format of packing  or give a certain period to tobacco industry for moving to new standards.

At this stage, we believe that introduction of simple packing format and sales of tobacco products under the counter is excessive restriction. The industry should be given enough time to meet new requirements”, Tadumadze said.
