Minimum Subsistence Level Decreased in July 2016

In July 2016, the subsistence minimum decreased in Georgia and it amounted to 156 GEL and 60 Tetri for working age male.

For average consumer subsistence minimum level defined with the amount of 138 GEL and 70 Tetri.

Based on the Statics Office of Georgia, minimum subsistence level amounted to 262 for average family.

As for the types of families, according to the data Geostat provides, the minimum subsistence level for two member household made up 221 GEL and 90 tetri, while 249 GEL is defined for three member households.

In addition for four member households the level amounted to 277 GEL and for the five-member it was 312 GEL in July 2016. Additionally, 368 GEL was for six and more member households.

Since 2004 Geostat has been calculating subsistence minimum indicators based on the minimum food basket defined and established according to the decree N 111/n of 2003 May 8 of the Minister of Georgian Labour, Health and Social Affairs on ’’Norms of determining the composition of minimum food basket for subsistence minimum regarding food substance and energy for physiology demand”.

Till 2004 Geostat had been calculated subsistence minimum indicators based on the different minimum food basket.

Changing of the methodology for calculating subsistence minimum indicators caused diferences of those data published before and after 2004.
